"In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful"

Alsalamo alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakato,

Below is a list of “JULY 2008 MOSQUE NEWS” that deserves your attention:

·        No potluck dinner will be held in August at the mosque. We will resume our potluck dinner events during Ramadan during which time they will be held EVERY Saturday.

·        Currently the board is discussing the purchase of 20 lots in a local cemetery in order to be able to provide Islamic burials if/when the need arises. The cemetery is found in the town of Washington, which is located along the southern sides of the cities of Eau Claire and Altoona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington,_Eau_Claire_County,_Wisconsin) more information regarding this topic will be available soon once discussions have concluded between the mosque's board and the board of the town of Washington

·        We need volunteers THIS SUMMER to commit to helping maintain the lawn of the masjid. Typically the grass needs to be mown once per week and it takes approximately 45 minutes to do so. PLEASE help us and earn hasanat for yourself by assisting in this project. Not only does it benefit you but it shows the Chippewa Valley Community at large that we care. Often the only view of our small masjid by non-Muslims is from the outside and if it looks shabby, then certainly we come across as uncaring. Please sign up for this invigorating bit of exercise after any Jumaa prayer service with Dr. Mahmoud Shawky Taman or Mr. AbdelRahman Ouda- they would be delighted to show you where to find the necessary equipment.

·        We need volunteers to commit to helping out on the September 14th, “Voices for Peace” event to be held at Phoenix Park. Volunteers would be expected to be present, helpful and smiling. They will need to answer questions and give out Islamic information for those that stop or pass by our booth/table. This is an all day event and it may be best to have 3 teams of volunteers who are willing to coordinate with each other and the organizers of “Voices for Peace”. Please contact Mr. Mohamed Elgindi for more information or to volunteer at telephone number 715-833-1046 or at email address elgindmb@uwec.edu. Additional information regarding this event may be obtained by contacting Philip Garvey at email address dpgarvey@wwt.net.

·        We need volunteers during Ramadan to help serve the needy a meal on Sunday, September 27th in Eau Claire (an exact address and contact information will be provided to those who do volunteer for this very worthy cause). Volunteers would need to arrive at approximately 3pm in order to set up and they would complete all duties by approximately 6pm after cleaning up. Older children are especially welcome at this event and a great way to get them involved in community events early on. Please contact Dr. Mahmoud Taman to volunteer at telephone number 715-723-2107 or via email at shawkyt@charter.net at your convenience.

·        Also during Ramadan the mosque will be contacting all members and associates for a fund raising campaign. Monies donated will be used for the upkeep and maintenance of the mosque, operations pertaining to the Sunday classes for children and (insha Allah) the cemetery plots we wish to purchase to be able to provide Islamic burials if and when the need arises. Help support your community by keeping some of your zakat donations local; Jazakum Allah Khairan!

·        During Ramadan (or sooner if possible) we will need to pin point Eid in order to plan the Eid Al Fitr party for the community, which is typically arranged by Mrs. Hala Elgindi, chair of the Social and Eid Committee. Anyone wishing to assist may contact Hala at telephone number 715-833-1046 or email addresses tarek500@msn.com and elgindmb@uwec.edu.

·        The issue of unattended children persists at all events held at the mosque. If we cannot obtain volunteers to watch after the children in shifts, we may need to close the doors leading to the prayer area during certain or even all events. Please contact Sadie if you wish to volunteer or if you have any comments or suggestions; her email is ssp776@hotmail.com or she may be reached via mobile phone at 715-505-1293 (no calls after 9pm). Please help make our community events warm, safe and enjoyable for everyone.

·        Finally, the mosque hosted the Teleb-Koch wedding on July 19th at 5pm. During that time guests were able to observe the Islamic marriage ceremony for Mr. Hadi Teleb (son of Dr. Radi and Tahani Teleb of Menomonie (formerly of Egypt) and Ms. Barbara Koch of Columbus, Ohio. Some photos have been uploaded to the “PHOTOS” page for the convenience of those who were unable to attend.

Thank you! Jazakum Allah Khairan!
